We find an interesting incident recorded in the book of John Chapter 3. A Jewish teacher named Nicodemus comes by night to visit Jesus. He tends to respect Jesus and tries to spark an interesting conversation with Him with certain interests, but Jesus interrupts him abruptly and speaks these revolutionary words, ‘Unless a man be born again he shall not see the kingdom of heaven’.
In Nicodemus, Jesus makes it clear that no amount of religion, good works, moral deeds can save a person. Nicodemus was not some poor helpless sinner at least not the way his society saw him. He was a religious teacher, morally upright, respected person. But since Adam and Eve’s fall humankind is in such a fallen state that until God, in His grace does not reach out to man first, man cannot save himself. The promise of New Heart was given by God hundreds of years before Jesus came to earth to actually fulfil it. In the book of Ezekiel Chapter 36:26 we find God declaring that He will remove a stony heart from inside of a person and replace it with a heart of flesh. It is in this miraculous moment of heart transplant God makes a sinner dead in sin, alive!
